The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type Could Fix That

Whenever a major prize-giving event approaches, one notices an outcry for introducing of new categories to honor unsung work and delight the passions of enthusiasts with niche passions.

My colleague made the case advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. Equally deserving are tabletop games, which is a dedicated supporter's campaign. But they will have to forgive me for pushing forward because like all single-minded supporters, there's a strong justification for why my demand is the most urgent and significant. The demand is this: It's essential to create a category for puzzle games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Categorizing art by genre is not a science; it remains highly personal, and inevitably spark debates and end in fuzzy definitions. There’s a reason film award organizations avoid this approach. However, it represents an essential concession for the industry of gaming, that demonstrate such variety it's challenging to consider them one unified medium.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of interactive entertainment excellence to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to receive proper recognition, genre categories are essential.

Current Gaming Award Categories

The major gaming awards presently include award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these classifications effectively encompass numerous genres, and you can find room for numerous titles.

Different situation exists for puzzle games. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Consider three of outstanding current releases, all very different: the architectural riddles of one title, intense tile-matching from another release, engaging interpersonal challenges of a third title. What category would fit them between these six categories? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles released every year lacking appropriate categories at major award shows, except when they manage to fit classification types such as Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging Indie races.

  • An iconic brain-teaser received no recognition in any category during that awards season
  • Another imaginative release was excluded that year
  • A beloved organization game received no acknowledgment that year
  • Just some brain-teasers managed to sneak into small studio or handheld classifications

Value of Brain-Teasers

These are often small games, but the art in brain-teasers carries substantial weight. Iconic mobile puzzle games count as most popular titles in the world maintaining this status for an extended period.

The famous puzzle experience challenges well-known building titles competing to become best-selling game of all time; it also contends for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational to the art of video games, and engaging with diverse game types.

Proposal and Rationale

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter this problem. One could readily select five nominees engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.

To emphasize again, these are games without proper classification at major gaming awards. Puzzle game makers operate at the hard edge interactive creation, developing some of most fundamental forms of gaming itself. Comparable to movie stunt professionals, they deserve recognition. We shouldn't delay generations.
